My guilty please is nice makeup. Don’t get me wrong, I love some drug store products, but there is nothing better than getting a new MAC eyeshadow or Nars bronzer. The packing is beautiful, and the products inside are even better.
Having said that, makeup is expensive.
One thing I always found discouraging when reading other blogs was how big their makeup collection was, compared to how small mine was. I by no means have a large collection, but mine has grown significantly lately, because I learned to shop the deals. Getting nice makeup at an even nicer price is all about where and when you get it. Once you learn the tricks, snagging some great things becomes a piece of cake.
The one site that has had the biggest influence on my collection is HauteLook. If you don’t already know, HauteLook is a Nordstrom company that runs flash sales on products. I literally check it daily. In the past few months, brands that I’ve seen run sales on here are Too Faced, Urban Decay, the Balm, Stila, and a ton more. The deals aren’t small either, no no. I’ve gotten $20 blushes for $11, which is a crazy good steal. The trick to mastering HauteLook is to check it frequently and buy quickly. Because there’s only a limited number of items, good things sell out quickly.
Another trick is to sign up for email lists. You would be amazed at how many companies offer discounts on your first purchase when you sign up with your email, like Estee Lauder (15% off), Bobbi Brown (15% off), Too Faced (20%), and Clinique (15% off), just to name a few. Also, email lists means first priority on sale alerts and special offers.
My final tip is to sign up for rewards programs through companies like Ulta and Sephora. Ulta lets you earn points that add up to discounts on purchases, and Sephora points add up to free delux samples. Also, as a member of the rewards program, you’ll earn access to special sales, like the Sephora VIB sale. Even though it might only be 10% off, that can add up quickly.
